Product Introduction
Alkacel 5mg tablet contains melphalan as the active constituent. It is an anticancer agent belonging to the class of alkylating agents. It is used to treat multiple myeloma, a type of cancer of the bone marrow. It is also used to treat advanced breast cancer and ovarian cancer. It is also indicated for polycythemia vera, a disease characterised by an increase in the number of red blood cells, which causes blood thickening and blood clots. It works by reducing the number of abnormal cells produced by your body.
Do not take Alkacel 5mg tablet if you are allergic to melphalan or any other ingredients in the formulation. Inform your physician if you have recently undergone radiotherapy or cancer chemotherapy, or if you have kidney problems. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you have recently been vaccinated or are planning any vaccination. Report to your physician immediately if you experience a rash, lumps, or hives on the skin, swollen face, eyelids, or lips, sudden wheeziness, or chest tightness after taking the medicine.

How it works
Alkacel 5mg tablet is an alkylating agent. It exerts its cytotoxic action primarily due to the cross-linking of strands of DNA and RNA, as well as the inhibition of protein synthesis. It works by stopping or slowing the growth of cancer cells in your body.
How to Use
Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of Alkacel 5mg tablet based on the disease condition and other factors. Always take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Take the tablet at the same time, with or without food. Do not break, chew, crush, or break the tablet. Swallow the whole tablet with water.

Lungs: Consult your doctor It is unknown whether Alkacel 5mg tablet can be used in patients with lung disorders. Consult your doctor if you have any lung diseases before starting the treatment.
Breastfeeding: unsafe Breastfeeding is not recommended in patients taking Alkacel 5mg tablet because the medicine passes into the breast milk in small amounts and may harm your baby. Do not breastfeed during the treatment.
