Product Introduction
Artamin 250mg Capsule contains D-Penicillamine as its active component. The medication is primarily used to treat Wilson's disease, a rare genetic disorder characterised by copper accumulation in the body, cystinuria, an inherited kidney condition, and rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic inflammatory condition of the joints. In rheumatoid arthritis, it functions to reduce joint inflammation and prevent disease-related joint damage. The medication is also employed in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning, including exposure to lead, mercury, and arsenic. In certain instances, it has been used to prevent recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stone formation, though this application is less frequently encountered.
Patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to D-Penicillamine or any component of Artamin 250mg Capsule should not use this medication. Those with a history of blood disorders, including aplastic anaemia or other significant haematologic conditions, may face increased risk of deterioration with its use. Patients with severe kidney impairment may experience worsening of kidney function, and use is generally cautioned or avoided in such cases. Individuals with a history of bone marrow suppression or blood disorders such as aplastic anaemia should avoid this medication due to the potential for worsening of these conditions. In older adults, particularly those with age-related decline in kidney or liver function, caution is advised during use. While the medication may be used in children for specific conditions such as Wilson's disease, use requires careful monitoring and dose adjustments.
Uses
Wilson's disease treatment Cystinuria management Rheumatoid arthritis control Heavy metal poisoning treatment Prevention of recurrent stones
How it works
Artamin 250mg Capsule functions as a chelating agent, binding to excess copper within the body. It forms a complex with copper, creating a compound that can be excreted through urine. Binding to copper prevents its accumulation in tissues, particularly in the liver and brain, which is crucial in managing the symptoms of Wilson's disease. This process helps reduce the toxic effects of copper buildup in individuals with this genetic disorder.
How to Use
Artamin 250mg Capsule is primarily administered orally. The healthcare provider will determine the dosage and duration of treatment based on the specific infection and individual factors.
Side Effects
Artamin 250mg Capsule causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Severe allergic reactions Bone marrow suppression Kidney problems Severe skin reactions Liver problems Common: Nausea and vomiting Loss of appetite Skin rashes Metallic taste Joint pain
Expert Tips
Close monitoring of blood counts, kidney function, liver function, and urine tests is essential during Artamin 250mg Capsule treatment to detect any potential complications early. Immediate medical attention is needed for symptoms like rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Caution is advised in individuals with pre-existing kidney or liver issues. It can affect these organs, so regular monitoring and adjustments to dosage might be necessary. Be vigilant for signs of bone marrow suppression, such as unexplained fever, sore throat, unusual bruising or bleeding, and fatigue. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, or herbal remedies, as they may interact with this medication. Report any unusual or severe skin reactions Regularly follow up with a healthcare provider to assess the effectiveness of treatment and manage any potential side effects or concerns, as it can sometimes cause severe skin issues. Some individuals might experience joint pain or discomfort, particularly during rheumatoid arthritis treatment. Monitoring and reporting these symptoms are essential.
