Product Introduction
Asviia 3750IU/5ml Injection is a chemotherapy agent containing pegaspargase as the active ingredient. It is indicated for the treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), a type of blood cancer characterised by uncontrolled proliferation of immature white blood cells that impairs the production of functional blood cells. When used in combination with other chemotherapy medications, this drug may help improve remission rates and long-term survival outcomes in patients with ALL. Paediatric patients with ALL derive particular benefit, demonstrating higher remission rates and overall survival when the medication is included in their treatment regimen. Asviia 3750IU/5ml Injection is typically administered alongside other chemotherapy agents for ALL treatment, especially in patients with inadequate response to prior therapies or those experiencing relapse following initial treatment. Glucose intolerance may occur during administration of Asviia 3750IU/5ml Injection. Medical attention should be sought for severe headaches, abdominal pain, excessive thirst, or serious allergic reactions during treatment with this medicine. Patients with a history of kidney disease or pancreatic disease should discuss treatment suitability with their healthcare provider before commencing this medication.
Uses
Asviia 3750IU/5ML Injection is indicated to treat the following conditions: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
How it works
Asviia 3750IU/5ML Injection is an enzyme that breaks down the amino acid asparagine in the body. Cancer cells require asparagine to grow and divide and cannot produce their asparagine. By breaking down asparagine in the body, this medication can effectively "starve" cancer cells of this essential nutrient, slowing their growth and promoting cancer cell death. However, normal cells in the body can produce their asparagine and are not as affected by the enzyme as cancer cells. Therefore, this medicine selectively targets cancer cells while sparing healthy cells in the body to some extent.
How to Use
Asviia 3750IU/5ML Injection is typically administered by a healthcare provider as an intravenous (IV) injection in a clinical setting. The dosage and frequency of infusions will vary depending on the patient's medical condition, age, weight, and other factors. You should not take a double dose to make up the second dose.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Asviia 3750IU/5ML Injection can cause side effects, although not everyone who takes it will experience them. Serious: Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) Thrombosis (blood clots) Hemorrhage (bleeding) Tumor Lysis Syndrome (a potentially life-threatening condition due to the breakdown of cancer cells) Acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) Hepatotoxicity (liver damage or failure) Neurotoxicity (damage to the nervous system) Hypersensitivity reactions (allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis) Renal failure (kidney damage or failure) Common: Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Fatigue Loss of appetite Headache Fever or chills Muscle or joint pain Rash or itching Swelling or redness at the injection site
Expert Tips
If you are receiving treatment with Asviia 3750IU/5ML Injection, report any side effects or concerns promptly. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding, it is important to discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. If patients see any sign of jaundice (yellow skin and eyes, abdominal pain, vomiting) after taking this medication, they should contact a doctor immediately because it can cause pancreas inflammation. Patients require close monitoring for any signs of abnormal bleeding or clotting. Making lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a healthy diet, can also help support your overall health and reduce the risk of cancer-related complications. Additionally, seeking support from family members, friends, or support groups can provide patients with emotional support and help them cope with the challenges of cancer treatment.
