Calcispray Nasal Spray

Calcispray Nasal Spray contains calcitonin as its active component. Calcitonin is a hormone that regulates calcium in the body. The thyroid gland produces it naturally, and it functions by lowering blood calcium levels through inhibition of calcium release from bones and increased calcium excretion via the kidneys. Synthetic calcitonin is used medicinally to manage specific conditions.

This medication is indicated for postmenopausal osteoporosis, Paget's disease of bone, and hypercalcaemia, and it prevents bone loss in patients with fractures. It strengthens bone tissue and reduces the risk of further deterioration. Calcispray Nasal Spray may reduce bone pain in patients with cancer that has metastasised to bone.

Do not use this medication in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to calcitonin or any component of the formulation. Allergic reactions may manifest as skin rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.

An alternative nasal spray formulation available in India is Calcitriol Nasal Spray. Because this medication lowers blood calcium levels, it should not be administered to patients with hypocalcaemia. Patients with impaired renal function may require dosage adjustments, as the kidneys eliminate this medication. Close monitoring is necessary to prevent potential accumulation.
