Conditions: Anti Cancer

Product Introduction

Certican 0.5mg tablet is an antineoplastic agent in the mTOR kinase inhibitor class, containing everolimus as its active ingredient. It is indicated for advanced breast cancer, renal cell carcinoma, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours, and subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (tumours located in the brain ventricles). Oral hygiene maintenance and regular dental examinations are important during treatment, as this medicine may cause mouth sores or ulcers. For subependymal giant cell astrocytoma, it is often used in combination with cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent.

Prior to commencing treatment, patients should be aware that the risk of bacterial and viral infections increases. Patients with a history of Hepatitis B infection face increased risk of reinfection with this medicine. Notify your healthcare provider if you develop fever, chills, cough, yellowing of skin, joint pain, or swelling during treatment. Limit sunlight and UV light exposure through protective clothing and frequent sunscreen application, as this medicine may increase the risk of developing cancers. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment.

Generic alternatives including everolimus and sirolimus exist, though medication changes should only occur under medical guidance. This tablet is not recommended for patients under 18 years of age. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or worsening cough. During Certican 0.5mg tablet treatment, your doctor may perform periodic monitoring of white blood cell counts, platelets, blood glucose, electrolytes, and kidney function parameters to prevent serious adverse effects. This medicine carries potential for kidney complications. Inform your doctor prior to starting treatment if you have been diagnosed with liver disorders, heart failure, elevated blood cholesterol, or hypertension. Live vaccines should be avoided, and close contact with individuals who have received live vaccines should be minimised.
