Product Introduction

Cilamin 250mg capsule contains penicillamine as the active ingredient. It functions as a chelating agent, binding to metals including copper and lead to facilitate their removal from the body. It is indicated for the treatment of Wilson's disease and lead poisoning. The medicine belongs to the class of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and is used to relieve pain and stiffness associated with rheumatoid arthritis in adults and children. It is also used to treat Still's disease in children. Cilamin 250mg capsule treats cystinuria, a kidney disorder, in adults and children. It is additionally indicated for chronic active hepatitis, a type of liver disease, in adults.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to penicillamine or any other ingredients in this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you have previously experienced a reduction in white blood cells following penicillamine use. Do not take this medicine if you have a history of aplastic anaemia (severe reduction in blood cells), lupus erythematosus (an allergic condition causing skin rashes), or kidney problems. Do not use this medicine if you have ever had thrombocytopenia (a blood disorder characterised by bleeding into the skin, bruising, and excessive bleeding following injury).

Inform your doctor if you have protein in your urine, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have blood in your urine, if you have an active infection, or if you are elderly. Your doctor will recommend complete blood and urine tests before starting treatment.

Uses

Cilamin 250mg Capsule is used in the treatment of the following: Relieve pain and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Treats lead poisoning Treats Still’s disease in children Treats Wilson’s disease Treats cystinuria Chronic active hepatitis Occasionally used in treating ankylosing spondylitis

How it works

As a chelating agent, Cilamin 250mg capsule chelates mercury, lead, copper, iron, and probably other heavy metals to form stable, soluble complexes that are readily excreted in the urine. In cystinuria, it lowers excess cystine excretion. It also inhibits the production of tropocollagen cross-links and cleaves them when newly created. The method of action in rheumatoid arthritis is uncertain; however, it appears to reduce disease activity.

How to Use

Take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of the treatment based on the disease condition and other factors. Swallow the capsules as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, chew, crush, or dissolve the capsules. Take the capsules on an empty stomach.
