Product Introduction
Comfora 100mg capsule contains pentosan polysulfate sodium as its active component. It is primarily used to treat interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome, a chronic condition characterised by pain and discomfort in the bladder and pelvis. The medication is believed to form a protective coating on the bladder lining, which helps reduce irritation and inflammation. This protective effect may contribute to its efficacy in managing interstitial cystitis symptoms. Pentosan polysulfate sodium is thought to possess anti-inflammatory and cartilage-protective properties. The medication has anticoagulant properties and has been studied for its potential use in preventing blood clots. It may be considered in individuals at risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), particularly in cases where other anticoagulants are unsuitable. It may be used in the management of bladder pain syndrome symptoms.
Comfora 100mg capsule should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to pentosan polysulfate sodium or any components of the formulation. Due to its anticoagulant properties, the medication can increase the risk of bleeding. It should be avoided in individuals with active bleeding disorders, such as haemophilia, thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), or other bleeding tendencies. The capsule should not be initiated immediately following major surgical procedures or spinal puncture because of its anticoagulant effects, which could increase the risk of bleeding at the surgical site or spinal canal.
Pentosan polysulfate sodium is primarily eliminated through the kidneys. Therefore, caution is advised in individuals with severe renal impairment, as impaired kidney function can affect the drug's clearance from the body. Safety and effectiveness in paediatric patients below 16 years of age have not been established. Regular monitoring and dose adjustments should be considered in older individuals before taking Comfora 100mg capsule if necessary.
Uses
Comfora 100mg capsule is used in the following: Interstitial cystitis Painful bladder syndrome
How it works
Comfora 100mg capsule primarily works in treating interstitial cystitis (IC) by forming a protective barrier on the bladder's inner lining. This protective barrier helps reduce irritation and inflammation in the bladder, alleviating the symptoms associated with IC, such as pelvic pain, urinary urgency, and frequency.
How to Use
Comfora 100mg capsule is typically administered orally in the form of capsules or tablets. However, in cases of bladder-related conditions like interstitial cystitis can also be delivered directly into the bladder through a catheter (intravesical administration). The choice of administration route depends on the specific medical condition and treatment plan.
Side Effects
Comfora 100mg capsule causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious Bleeding disorders Liver damage Allergic reactions Common Gastrointestinal disturbances Headache Unusual taste
