Product Introduction

Cpressin P 20IU Injection contains vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), a peptide hormone that maintains water balance and regulates blood pressure in the body. This medication is indicated for diabetes insipidus. It has been used as an alternative to epinephrine in certain cases of cardiac arrest. In severe haemorrhagic shock (life-threatening blood loss), it may be used to increase blood pressure and support vital organ perfusion.

Diabetes insipidus is a rare disorder characterised by excessive thirst and urination due to insufficient production of or response to antidiuretic hormone. Cardiac arrest is a sudden, life-threatening condition in which the heart stops beating, leading to cessation of blood flow and loss of consciousness.

This medication regulates water balance in the body and exerts vasoconstrictive effects on blood vessels. During physical or emotional stress, it is released as part of the body's stress response, aiding water conservation and increasing blood pressure to manage stress. Vasopressin has been linked to various social behaviours and bonding in certain animal species, including pair bonding and maternal behaviours.

Adverse effects may manifest as allergic reactions or other effects requiring careful monitoring and management by healthcare professionals during administration. The water-retaining effects of Cpressin P 20IU Injection can potentially lead to low sodium levels (hyponatremia) if not appropriately monitored. Its vasoconstrictive effects can cause significant elevation in blood pressure. Use with caution in patients with hypertension or other cardiovascular conditions. Careful dosage adjustment and monitoring are required in paediatric and elderly patients during administration.

Uses

Cpressin P 20IU Injection is used to treat the following: Diabetes Insipidus Cardiac Arrest Hemorrhagic Shock

How it works

Cpressin P 20IU Injection acts by binding to V2 receptors in the kidneys to increase water reabsorption, reducing urine output in diabetes insipidus. In cardiac arrest, it targets V1 receptors in blood vessels, causing vasoconstriction, elevating blood pressure, and improving blood flow during resuscitation. In severe hemorrhagic shock, its vasoconstrictive effects help maintain blood pressure and support vital organ perfusion until definitive treatment can be provided. Proper monitoring and dosing are essential due to their potent cardiovascular effects.

How to Use

Cpressin P 20IU Injection can be administered through various routes, including intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC), and intranasal, depending on the medical condition and the need for rapid or sustained effects. Proper administration should be done under the supervision of healthcare professionals to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Side Effects

Cpressin P 20IU Injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Allergic reactions Chest pain or irregular heartbeats Severe headache Confusion Changes in mental state Seizures Severe abdominal pain or cramping Common: Nausea or vomiting Stomach cramps Headache Dizziness or lightheadedness Runny or stuffy nose Increased thirst Water retention or swelling

Expert Tips

Caution should be exercised to monitor for severe allergic reactions, cardiovascular effects, and hyponatremia. Special care is required for patients with hepatic or renal impairment, the elderly, and pediatric patients, as they may have altered responses. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of Cpressin P 20IU Injection should be approached cautiously, and potential drug interactions need to be considered. Excessive dosing or prolonged use might lead to tolerance and overdose risks. Patients with cardiovascular diseases, allergies to oxytocin, or epilepsy require close monitoring. Proper administration, dilution, and monitoring of intravenous infusions are essential, and intranasal formulations must adhere to recommended dosages to avoid complications. Awareness of the risk of water intoxication and gangrene is crucial, as is monitoring peripheral circulation. Careful assessment and active patient involvement are fundamental in ensuring the safe and effective use of this medication.
