Product Introduction

Curosurf 120mg injection contains poractant alfa, a lung surfactant medication used to treat Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. The medication has improved survival and clinical outcomes in many premature infants. Studies demonstrate reduction in mortality risk, decreased need for mechanical ventilation, and shortened hospital stays in premature infants with RDS. It is beneficial for infants at risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease that can develop in premature infants. Curosurf 120mg injection demonstrates greater stability than other surfactant medications, permitting extended storage without loss of effectiveness.

Curosurf 120mg injection is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to poractant alfa, as severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis may occur. The medication should not be administered to infants with severe RDS, as effectiveness may be limited in these patients. It is contraindicated in infants with history of porcine protein hypersensitivity. The medication carries increased bleeding risk and should not be given to infants with active bleeding. Effectiveness may be reduced in infants with neonatal pneumonia and meconium aspiration syndrome. Curosurf 120mg injection is not indicated for use in adults, as effectiveness has not been established in this population.

Uses

Curosurf 120mg injection is used in the following: Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)

How it works

Curosurf 120mg injection lowers the surface tension in the lungs by forming a film on the surface of the alveoli, the tiny air sacs in the lungs. This film reduces the force of attraction between the water molecules in the alveoli, making it easier for them to stay open.

How to Use

Curosurf 120mg injection is administered through a breathing tube into the infant's lungs. This is called endotracheopulmonary administration. It is a relatively simple procedure that can be done in a hospital setting.
