Product Introduction

Dexem Injection 0.5 mL contains dexmedetomidine, a sedative medication used to induce a calm, relaxed, or sleep-like state in adult patients. It is commonly administered in intensive care units (ICUs) for sedation of critically ill patients and is also used to provide conscious sedation during various diagnostic and surgical procedures, allowing patients to remain responsive while relaxed.

This medicine should not be used in individuals who are allergic to dexmedetomidine or any of its components. Before receiving Dexem Injection, inform your healthcare provider if you have any heart-related disorders or experience severe low blood pressure that does not improve with treatment. It is also important to disclose if you have recently suffered a stroke or any serious condition that affects blood flow to the brain, as these conditions may influence the safety of the medication.

Your doctor will carefully evaluate your medical history and overall health to determine whether Dexem Injection is an appropriate treatment option for you.

Uses

For patients in intensive care settings (sedation) For diagnostic or surgical procedures (awake sedation)

How it works

Dexem injection 0.5ml acts on alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, inhibits the release of a chemical substance called norepinephrine, and terminates the spread of pain signals in the brain, providing calm and relaxation. When given slowly at lower and moderate doses, it mainly targets one type of alpha1 receptor, providing a soothing effect. However, at higher doses or when given quickly, it can affect both types of alpha1 and alpha2 receptors.

How to Use

Dexem injection 0.5ml is given only in a hospital set up by a trained healthcare provider. It will be given to you as an injection into your muscle (intramuscularly) for adults in the arm and children in the thigh. Your doctor will decide your most apt dosage based on age, body weight, and physical circumstances.
