Product Introduction

Econem 1gm Injection is an antibiotic of the carbapenem class containing meropenem as its active ingredient. It is used to treat various bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including those affecting the skin, lungs, urinary tract, and gynaecological system. This injection may also be used for prevention of surgical site infections.

Econem 1gm Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics, such as penicillins or cephalosporins. Patients who have experienced severe diarrhoea following other antibiotic use should inform their physician before treatment.

This medication can reduce serum concentrations of valproic acid, which is used to treat seizures and certain mental health conditions, potentially leading to decreased effectiveness of valproic acid. Patients taking valproic acid may require dose adjustment or alternative treatment consideration by their healthcare provider.

Before starting treatment with Econem 1gm Injection, patients should inform their physician of any pre-existing medical conditions including epilepsy, kidney or liver problems, or if they are following a salt-controlled diet. During treatment, doctors may recommend blood tests to monitor blood cell count and kidney function.

Patients who suspect pregnancy or plan to conceive should inform their doctor of all medications recently taken, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Expert Tips

Overuse or misuse of antibiotics can contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It is important to use this drug only as prescribed and directed by your physician. Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your improvement and discuss any doubts or queries you may have regarding your treatment with Econem 1gm Injection. While this drug is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some individuals. If you get serious side effects, like severe diarrhoea, rash, or difficulty breathing, notify your doctor immediately. It is highly advised not to skip the dose schedules as it may decrease the drug's effectiveness and increase the chance of bacteria developing resistance. It is generally suggested to complete the full treatment schedule as your doctor prescribes.
