Product Introduction
Elpenem 1gm Injection is a carbapenem antibiotic containing meropenem. It is indicated for treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including skin, lung, urinary tract, and gynaecological infections. The injection is also used for prevention of surgical site infections.
Elpenem 1gm Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins or cephalosporins. Patients who have experienced severe diarrhoea following previous antibiotic use should inform their physician before treatment.
Meropenem can reduce serum concentrations of valproic acid, a medication used in seizure management and certain psychiatric conditions. This reduction may decrease the effectiveness of valproic acid. Patients taking valproic acid may require dose adjustment or alternative treatment options, as determined by their healthcare provider.
Prior to commencing Elpenem 1gm Injection, patients should inform their physician of pre-existing medical conditions including epilepsy, kidney dysfunction, liver dysfunction, or adherence to a salt-restricted diet. During treatment, blood tests may be recommended to monitor blood cell count and kidney function. Patients who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or taking herbal supplements should inform their doctor of all recent medications before starting treatment.

How it works

Expert Tips
Overuse or misuse of antibiotics can contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It is important to use this drug only as prescribed and directed by your physician. Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your improvement and discuss any doubts or queries you may have regarding your treatment with Elpenem 1gm Injection. While this drug is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some individuals. If you get serious side effects, like severe diarrhea, rash, or difficulty breathing, notify your doctor immediately. It is highly advised not to skip the dose schedules as it may decrease the drug's effectiveness and increase the chance of bacteria developing resistance. It is generally suggested to complete the full treatment schedule as your doctor prescribes.
