Product Introduction

Eltrombopag 50mg Tablet is a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist used to treat low platelet counts in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), hepatitis C (HCV) infection, and severe aplastic anemia. ITP is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system destroys platelets, which are necessary for blood clotting and protection of blood vessel walls. Low platelet levels in patients with ITP can lead to severe bleeding and bruising. Severe aplastic anemia is a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce adequate new blood cells; the tablet is indicated in adults with this condition to treat low blood counts.

The medication works by stimulating the thrombopoietin receptor to increase platelet production in patients with ITP, hepatitis C, and severe aplastic anemia, thereby helping to prevent bleeding complications related to low platelet counts.

Do not use this tablet in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to eltrombopag or its components. Allergic reactions may range from mild to severe and may include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. The tablet is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease due to risk of hepatotoxicity, indicated by increased liver enzymes and bilirubin levels.

Your doctor may recommend regular eye tests to monitor for cataracts or retinal bleeding, particularly during prolonged use. If you discontinue this tablet, your platelet count is likely to decrease again within several days. Your doctor will monitor your platelet count and adjust dosage to avoid excessively high platelet counts, which can increase the risk of blood clots.
