Categories: Infectious Disease

Conditions: Antibacterials

Product Introduction

Eupen 500mg injection is a carbapenem antibiotic containing meropenem as the active ingredient. It is indicated for treatment of various bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including skin, lung, urinary, and gynaecological infections. It is also used for prevention of surgical site infections.

The medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins or cephalosporins. Patients with a history of severe diarrhoea following other antibiotic use should inform their physician before treatment.

Eupen 500mg injection can reduce serum concentrations of valproic acid, a medication used to treat seizures and certain mental health conditions, potentially leading to decreased valproic acid effectiveness. In patients taking valproic acid, the healthcare provider may need to adjust the dose or consider alternative treatments.

Before starting treatment with Eupen 500mg injection, patients should inform their physician of any pre-existing medical conditions including epilepsy, kidney or liver problems, or if they are on a salt-controlled diet. During treatment, the doctor may recommend blood tests to monitor blood cell count and kidney function. Patients who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or taking herbal products and supplements should inform their doctor of all medications being used.

Expert Tips

Overuse or misuse of antibiotics can contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It is important to use this drug only as prescribed and directed by your physician. Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your improvement and discuss any doubts or queries you may have regarding your treatment with Eupen 500mg injection. While this drug is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some individuals. If you get serious side effects, like severe diarrhea, rash, or difficulty breathing, notify your doctor immediately. It is highly advised not to skip the dose schedules as it may decrease the drug's effectiveness and increase the chance of bacteria developing resistance. It is generally suggested to complete the full treatment schedule as your doctor prescribes.
