Product Introduction
Exelon 6mg capsule is a cholinesterase inhibitor containing rivastigmine. It is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's dementia in adults. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder characterised by decline in memory, intellect, and behaviour. The condition involves death of specific nerve cells in the brain, resulting in reduced levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter essential for nerve cell communication. Rivastigmine works by inhibiting enzymes that break down acetylcholine, thereby helping to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The medicine is also used to treat dementia in adult patients with Parkinson's disease.
Do not use Exelon 6mg capsule if you are allergic to rivastigmine or any other ingredients in the formulation. Avoid this medicine if you have experienced a severe skin reaction to a transdermal patch that did not improve within 48 hours after removal. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to carbamate derivatives such as neostigmine (used to treat myasthenia gravis) or darunavir (used for HIV treatment). This medicine is not indicated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease in children.
Before taking Exelon 6mg capsule, inform your doctor if you have a history of irregular or slow heartbeat, heart failure, myocardial infarction, low potassium or magnesium levels, or active stomach ulcer. Report to your physician if you have difficulty passing urine, seizures, asthma or severe respiratory disease, impaired kidney function, impaired liver function, or if you have a low body weight below 50 kg. If you miss doses for three days, consult your doctor before taking the next dose.
