Product Introduction
Exelon Patch 5 (4.6mg) Patch is a cholinesterase inhibitor containing rivastigmine. It is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's dementia in adults. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder characterised by decline in memory, intellectual function, and behaviour. The condition involves death of specific nerve cells in the brain, resulting in reduced levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter essential for nerve cell communication. This medicine acts by inhibiting the enzymes responsible for breaking down acetylcholine, thereby helping to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The patch is also used to treat dementia in adult patients with Parkinson's disease.
Do not use Exelon Patch 5 (4.6mg) Patch if you are allergic to rivastigmine or any other ingredients in the formulation. Avoid use if you experience a skin reaction that extends beyond the patch application area, or if you develop an intense local reaction such as blisters, increased skin inflammation, or swelling that does not resolve within 48 hours after removing the patch. Inform your doctor promptly of such reactions. This patch is not indicated for children with Alzheimer's disease.
Before using Exelon Patch 5 (4.6mg) Patch, inform your doctor of any history of irregular or slow heartbeat, active stomach ulcers, urinary retention, seizures, asthma, severe respiratory disease, tremor, low body weight, gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, or impaired hepatic function. Your doctor will evaluate your medical status and determine the suitability of this patch for your condition. It is essential to disclose all pre-existing health conditions to your healthcare provider to ensure safe and effective use of this medication. If you miss the patch for three days, consult your doctor before applying the next dose.
