Product Introduction

Fondared 2.5mg injection contains fondaparinux sodium as its active component. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots. The medication is often administered to patients at risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, including those undergoing surgery or requiring prolonged immobilisation. It can also prevent pulmonary embolism, which occurs when a blood clot from the legs or elsewhere travels to the lungs. Fondared 2.5mg injection is used as part of treatment for established deep vein thrombosis. It may be combined with other medications to manage acute coronary syndromes, conditions characterised by reduced blood flow to the heart.

Fondared 2.5mg injection should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to fondaparinux sodium or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with active bleeding disorders, including gastrointestinal bleeding, intracranial bleeding, or any other severe bleeding episode. Individuals with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/min) should not use this medication due to risk of accumulation and increased bleeding. Use is generally not recommended in patients with bacterial endocarditis, a serious heart infection, as it may not effectively prevent clots in this condition. Caution is advised in patients with a history of ulcerative gastrointestinal disease or other conditions that may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients with severe hypertension may require careful monitoring and potential adjustment of anticoagulant therapy. Use is generally not recommended in children and adolescents due to limited safety and efficacy data in this age group. Fondared 2.5mg injection may be used in elderly patients, though caution is advised, as age-related changes in kidney function may affect drug clearance.

Uses

Treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS)

How it works

Fondared 2.5mg injection is an anticoagulant medication that works by inhibiting a specific factor in the blood clotting cascade. Its mechanism of action involves blocking the activity of factor Xa, which is a crucial enzyme in the coagulation (blood clotting) pathway.

How to Use

Fondared 2.5mg injection is typically administered via subcutaneous injection. It is important to follow the dosing instructions as your healthcare provider recommends.

Side Effects

Fondared 2.5mg injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Bleeding Thrombocytopenia Hypersensitivity reactions Spinal/epidural hematoma Common: Bleeding at the injection site Nausea Injection site reactions Fever Low hemoglobin Abnormal liver function tests

Expert Tips

Caution is needed in cases of renal and hepatic impairment while taking Fondared 2.5mg injection, and special attention should be given to patients undergoing spinal or epidural procedures due to the potential for hematoma. Monitoring of platelet counts, renal function, and coagulation parameters is essential. Hypersensitivity reactions, pediatric use, and the use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be carefully considered. Elderly patients may require closer monitoring, and potential drug interactions and alcohol consumption should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Patients should exercise caution in activities that may lead to injury due to the increased risk of bleeding.
