Product Introduction

Fosbait 500mg tablet contains lanthanum carbonate as its active component. It is a medication used to treat hyperphosphatemia, which is characterised by elevated phosphate levels in the blood, commonly observed in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). It may be used to manage phosphate levels in patients with end-stage renal disease requiring haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, in conjunction with dietary restrictions and other phosphate binders. In certain cases, hyperphosphatemia may occur in individuals with rare genetic disorders or particular metabolic conditions affecting phosphate metabolism. The medication may be considered in such instances to help control phosphate levels. This medication should be prescribed and monitored by a healthcare professional. Individuals with a history of allergic or hypersensitivity reaction to Fosbait 500mg tablet or its components should not use this medication. It should not be used in patients with gastrointestinal obstruction, as it may not be absorbed properly or could worsen the obstruction. The tablet should not be crushed or chewed. Individuals who experience difficulty swallowing tablets and cannot take them as directed should not use this medication. Individuals with severe bowel conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or bowel obstructions, may face an increased risk of complications when using this medication. Discussion of potential risks and benefits with a healthcare provider is important in such cases. It is generally recommended to use calcium supplements concurrently with Fosbait 500mg tablet, with close monitoring by a healthcare professional.

How it works

Fosbait 500mg tablet involves binding to dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, forming insoluble compounds that are not absorbed by the body. This prevents the absorption of excess phosphate, helping to lower elevated phosphate levels in the blood, which is particularly important in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

How to Use

Fosbait 500mg tablet is typically administered orally, which means it is taken by mouth as tablets or chewable tablets. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the appropriate route and dosage for Fosbait 500mg tablet administration.

Expert Tips

Fosbait 500mg tablet should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider who can monitor your condition and adjust your treatment plan as necessary. Inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney-related conditions or if your kidney function changes during treatment. Adjustments to the dosage may be necessary. If you have a history of gastrointestinal disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease or bowel obstructions, discuss these conditions with your healthcare provider. If you are scheduled for surgery, including dental surgery, inform your surgeon and healthcare provider that you are taking Fosbait 500mg tablet. If you are following a phosphate-restricted diet, work closely with a dietitian or nutritionist to ensure that your dietary choices align with your treatment goals. Avoid phosphate-rich foods and beverages. Regular monitoring of calcium and vitamin D levels may be necessary, as prolonged use of this medication can affect their absorption.
