Product Introduction

Fragmin 2500IU Injection contains dalteparin as its active component. It is used to prevent and treat blood clots and belongs to the class of anticoagulants, specifically low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). The medication works by inhibiting formation of blood clots, which helps reduce the risk of conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism. Deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot that forms in a deep vein, typically in the legs. Pulmonary embolism is a serious condition occurring when a clot travels to the lungs and may cause life-threatening complications. Fragmin 2500IU Injection provides a more predictable anticoagulant response than unfractionated heparin, enabling easier dosing and monitoring. Its longer half-life means less frequent dosing is required compared with other anticoagulants, which can improve patient compliance. Unlike warfarin, which requires frequent international normalized ratio (INR) level monitoring, this medication typically does not require such monitoring. This medication carries a lower bleeding risk than some other anticoagulants, making it safer for certain patient populations. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to Fragmin 2500IU Injection or other heparins should not use this medication. As an anticoagulant, it can increase the risk of bleeding and should be used cautiously in patients with a history of bleeding disorders or active bleeding. Patients with severe kidney impairment may require dosage adjustments or alternative treatments, as this medication is primarily eliminated through the kidneys. Caution is advised in patients undergoing spinal or epidural anaesthesia or lumbar puncture, as it may increase the risk of epidural or spinal haematomas, which could lead to paralysis.

Uses

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) Pulmonary embolism (PE). Prevention of blood clots in medical setting

How it works

The mechanism of action of Fragmin 2500IU Injection involves its ability to bind to antithrombin III, a natural anticoagulant in the body. This binding enhances antithrombin III's ability to inactivate clotting factors, particularly factor Xa and, to a lesser extent, thrombin. By inhibiting these key clotting factors, this medication effectively prevents the formation of blood clots. It reduces the risk of thromboembolic events, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

How to Use

Fragmin 2500IU Injection is typically administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin). The exact dosing and administration schedule will depend on the medical condition being treated, the patient's weight, and other individual factors. It is essential to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional or pharmacist carefully.

Fragmin 2500IU Injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Signs of bleeding Black or bloody stools Coughing up blood or blood clots Severe headache or weakness, especially on one side of the body Sudden vision changes Severe abdominal or back pain Severe or persistent dizziness or fainting Signs of an allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling Common: Bruising at the injection site Mild pain or redness at the injection site Bleeding from the gums or nose Mild stomach upset or nausea Mild headache Itching or skin rash

Expert Tips

Before using Fragmin 2500IU Injection, inform your healthcare provider about any bleeding disorders, history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, kidney or liver impairment, and any ongoing medications or medical conditions. Be vigilant for signs of bleeding, such as easy bruising or prolonged bleeding from cuts, and report any severe or persistent side effects promptly. Caution is advised when undergoing spinal or epidural anesthesia, as Fragmin 2500IU Injection may increase the risk of spinal or epidural hematomas. Regular monitoring of blood clotting factors may be necessary, especially during surgery or invasive procedures. Avoid alcohol abuse, which can further increase bleeding risk. The use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully assessed, and if you are planning long-distance travel, consult your healthcare provider for travel-related precautions. Follow all healthcare provider's instructions and attend follow-up appointments to ensure safe and effective treatment with Fragmin 2500IU Injection.
