Huena Tablet

Huena Tablet is a prescription medicine used to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). It contains Methenamine Hippurate, a urinary antiseptic that helps reduce the risk of repeated UTIs. Unlike antibiotics, Huena Tablet does not directly kill bacteria. Instead, it releases formaldehyde in acidic urine, which creates an antibacterial environment that inhibits the growth of harmful urinary pathogens. This unique mechanism helps lower the risk of antibiotic resistance, making it suitable for long-term prevention of recurrent infections.

Huena Tablet uses include the long-term prevention of recurrent UTIs in women, older adults, and individuals with structural abnormalities of the urinary tract or those prone to frequent urinary infections. For Huena Tablet to work effectively, the urine must remain acidic. Your doctor may recommend avoiding foods or medicines that make the urine alkaline and may advise taking vitamin C or other urine-acidifying agents to enhance the medicine's effectiveness. Huena Tablet itself is inactive in the bloodstream. When excreted in the urine, it is hydrolysed in acidic conditions (pH < 6) to release formaldehyde. Formaldehyde acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract. This non-specific antibacterial action reduces the likelihood of resistance compared to traditional antibiotics. To maximise its effect, urine acidity must be maintained. Doctors may recommend ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or dietary adjustments to keep the urine acidic.
