Product Introduction

Icupen 500mg Injection contains doripenem, a carbapenem-class antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including serious infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Primary indications include urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and infections in hospitalized patients. The medication treats infections within the abdominal cavity, such as appendicitis, peritonitis, and abscesses. It is used for infections of the bladder, kidneys, and other parts of the urinary system. The medication is also used to treat bacterial pneumonia in hospitalized patients and skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria. In certain cases, it may be considered for treatment of bacterial meningitis caused by susceptible organisms.

Patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to Icupen 500mg Injection should not use this medication. Patients with severe kidney problems should consult a healthcare provider before initiating therapy. Patients with a history of seizures or conditions that increase seizure risk should consult a healthcare provider. Individuals with severe liver dysfunction may experience altered drug metabolism and should consult a healthcare provider before starting this medication. Icupen 500mg Injection can be used in paediatric populations under medical supervision. Use in elderly patients is possible, but certain precautions must be observed due to age-related changes in metabolism and comorbid medical conditions.

Uses

Icupen 500mg injection is used in the following: Complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) Intra-abdominal infections Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) Skin and soft tissue infections Bacterial meningitis

How it works

Icupen 500mg injection disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This interference weakens the cell wall's structure, rendering bacteria susceptible to osmotic stress and eventual cell lysis. This mechanism of action, similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics, makes this medication effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, aiding in treating various infections.

How to Use

Icupen 500mg injection is typically administered intravenously by a healthcare professional and is generally used for severe infections that have not responded to other less potent antibiotics due to its strong effectiveness against a wide range of bacteria.

Side Effects

Icupen 500mg injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious Severe allergic reactions Seizures or convulsions Worsening symptoms of bacterial or fungal infections Severe diarrhea Unusual tiredness Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice) Dark urine Common Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Headache Rash Itching Pain at the injection site (if given intravenously) Elevated liver enzymes
