It contains the active ingredients Ifosfamide and Mesna. This medication is indicated for treatment of bladder inflammation and cancers of the soft tissues, germ cells, pancreas, and cervix. Mesna provides protection against certain harmful effects of chemotherapy agents.
Do not use this medicine if you have experienced an allergic reaction to Ifosfamide, Mesna, or any component of the formulation.
This medication may cause severe bone marrow suppression, resulting in reduced white blood cell count or platelet count following chemotherapy or radiation therapy. A three-month interval should elapse following administration of live virus vaccines such as measles, mumps, rubella, or varicella before commencing treatment with this drug.
Caution is advised when using this medication in patients with severe kidney or liver disease. Inform your doctor of all other medications, over-the-counter medicines, or herbal products you are taking, as your doctor will assess the potential for drug interactions.
This medication is contraindicated in pregnancy as it causes fetal harm. Your healthcare practitioner will conduct a pregnancy test prior to initiating treatment. Effective birth control methods should be discussed with your doctor and utilised for at least two weeks following the final dose. Breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment with this drug, as it may pass into breast milk in small amounts.
Uses
Hemorrhagic cystitis (bladder inflammation) Soft tissue cancer Germ cell cancer Pancreatic cancer Cervical cancer
How it works
These two combinations together work by damaging the DNA in cancer cells, which leads to cell death and slows the growth and spread of cancer. Mostly, this involves the formation of reactive metabolites in the liver, which are then transported to cancer cells in the body. These metabolites react with the DNA in the cancer cells, causing cross-links and breaks in the DNA strands. This interferes with the replication and transcription of DNA, leading to cell death.
How to Use
It will be given to you by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic setting trained in cancer chemotherapy. Ifosmid-M 1gm injection is given as an intravenous infusion drip (into your vein). Do not self-administer the injection. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of the treatment based on your disease severity, body weight, and other factors.
