Product Introduction

Irinot 40mg Injection belongs to the group of anti-cancer medicines, classified as cytostatics. It contains the active ingredient Irinotecan hydrochloride trihydrate. The medication is indicated for advanced colon cancer and rectal cancer in adults. It may be prescribed as monotherapy or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents. Colon and rectal cancers are more prevalent in age groups above 50 years and are associated with genetic and environmental factors.

Myelosuppression, characterised by bone marrow suppression leading to low levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, and diarrhoea are the most commonly reported adverse effects. Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, anaemia, pain, fatigue, fever, infections including sepsis, abnormal bilirubin levels, alopecia, and weight loss. Inform your doctor if these side effects occur or persist.

Notify your doctor if you have chronic inflammatory bowel disease, bowel obstruction, or have received any live vaccines. Inform your physician if you are allergic to Irinotecan or its ingredients. Before commencing treatment, report to your physician if you have liver problems or jaundice, kidney or heart problems, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or severe diarrhoea. If you smoke or have previously received radiation therapy, inform your healthcare provider. Advise your healthcare provider of all other medicines, herbs, and supplements you are taking. Effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to prevent pregnancy. Your physician will arrange blood tests before and during treatment to monitor the effects of Irinot 40mg Injection on blood counts and blood chemistry.

Uses

Treatment of metastatic cancer of the colon and rectum (large intestine).

How it works

Irinot 40mg Injection works by converting its active metabolite with the help of liver enzymes and inhibits the Topoisomerase I enzyme. This causes damage to the DNA synthesis and its replication, thus preventing the cancer cells from growing and spreading.

How to Use

Take this medicine exactly as prescribed. Your healthcare professional administers it into your vein. Do not self-administer. Your physician will recommend a DNA test before taking this medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition.
