Product Introduction

Kolibitor Injection 10ml contains cotrimoxazole as its active component. This is a combination medication comprising trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. It is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The medication may be prescribed for certain respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis and specific types of pneumonia. It can be used to treat gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is effective in treating certain bacterial skin infections and wounds. It may be prescribed to prevent or treat traveller's diarrhoea in certain situations. It is also used as a preventive measure against PCP, a type of pneumonia that affects individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS. Patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to cotrimoxazole or any component of Kolibitor Injection 10ml should not use this medication, as serious allergic reactions can occur. Patients with folic acid deficiency should avoid this medication. Patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction may be unable to process the medication effectively, which can lead to potential adverse effects. The medication can affect blood cells, potentially leading to blood disorders such as anaemia, thrombocytopenia, or agranulocytosis. Patients with pre-existing blood disorders or conditions affecting blood cell production should use Kolibitor Injection 10ml with caution. It can be used in children for certain bacterial infections, though dosage is determined based on weight and age. It can be used in older adults, but caution is necessary due to potential age-related changes in kidney function and other concurrent health conditions.

Kolibitor Injection 10ml is used in the following: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) Respiratory tract infections Gastrointestinal infections Skin and soft tissue infections Traveller's diarrhoea Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) prevention Toxoplasmosis Nocardiosis Other bacterial infections

How it works

Cotrimoxazole involves a synergistic inhibition of bacterial folate synthesis. It combines trimethoprim, which blocks a specific enzyme in the pathway, with sulfamethoxazole, which competes with para-aminobenzoic acid, a folate precursor. This dual action disrupts the bacteria's ability to synthesize DNA, RNA, and proteins, inhibiting their growth and effectively treating infections.

How to Use

Kolibitor Injection 10ml can be administered as an intravenous injection. The intravenous route delivers the medication directly into the bloodstream. The administration route choice depends on the infection's severity and the patient's condition.
