Product Introduction

Lacotide 10mg Injection contains lacosamide, an anticonvulsant medication used to treat partial-onset seizures (seizures affecting one part of the brain) in adults and children 1 month of age and older. It is also used in combination with other medications to control primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures (formerly known as grand mal seizures, affecting the entire body) in adults and children 4 years and older. Lacotide 10mg Injection is frequently prescribed as add-on therapy alongside other antiepileptic medications when current drugs are insufficient to control seizures. This makes it a valuable treatment option for patients with inadequate seizure control using current medications alone.

Lacotide 10mg Injection should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to the drug or its components. Allergic reactions can be severe, including symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing. It is generally well-tolerated by many patients, though side effects are possible and not experienced universally. Common side effects, including dizziness and nausea, are typically mild and may decrease over time. Lacotide injection should be used cautiously in patients with a history of cardiac rhythm problems. It can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision. While this medication can benefit many individuals, it may carry potential risk of addiction. This risk could be heightened in patients with a history of substance use disorder involving excessive use or dependency on drugs or alcohol. To avoid complications, strict adherence to the prescribed dosage is essential, and the dose should not be increased, taken more frequently, or used for longer than recommended by your healthcare provider.

Uses

Lacotide 10mg Injection is used in the treatment of the following: Seizures

How it works

Lacotide 10mg Injection works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It is thought to do this by blocking the movement of sodium ions into neurons. This prevents neurons from firing too quickly, which can help to prevent seizures.

How to Use

The drug is given via intravenous (IV) injection, offering flexibility in dosing and administration. The recommended dosage and administration of Lacotide 10mg Injection depend on the patient's age, weight, medical condition, and response to other medications. Patients must follow their healthcare provider's instructions carefully and attend regular check-ups to monitor the drug's effectiveness.

Side Effects

Lacotide 10mg Injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious side effects of Lacotide 10mg Injection are: Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing) Suicidal thoughts or behaviors Mood changes (anxiety, irritability, aggression, depression) Changes in cognitive function (difficulty concentrating, memory problems) Cardiac effects (changes in heart rate, rhythm, or conduction) Photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to light) Worsening seizures Vision changes Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a rare and severe skin reaction) Multi-organ hypersensitivity syndrome (DRESS syndrome) Blood disorders (thrombocytopenia, leukopenia) Common side effects of Lacotide 10mg Injection are: Dizziness Headache Nausea Vomiting Blurred vision Diplopia (double vision) Tremor Fatigue Insomnia Abnormal coordination Constipation
