Conditions: Anti Cancer

Product Introduction

Leevarin 15mg Tablet contains leucovorin calcium, a substance chemically related to folic acid. Methotrexate, a medicine used in the treatment of cancer and other conditions, can reduce folic acid levels in the body. This medicine is used to counteract the effects of methotrexate and help restore folic acid levels—a process known as leucovorin rescue. It is also used to treat megaloblastic anaemia resulting from reduced folic acid levels.

Do not take Leevarin 15mg Tablet if you are allergic to leucovorin calcium or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have certain types of anaemia such as pernicious anaemia or megaloblastic anaemia associated with vitamin B12 deficiency.

Before starting treatment, inform your physician if you have anaemia, kidney problems, heart problems, or liver problems. Notify your physician if you experience wheezing, trouble breathing, skin rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the lips, face, or tongue.

Uses

Methotrexate overdose and toxicity Diminish the counter effects of methotrexate Megaloblastic anemia

How it works

Methotrexate is a folate antagonist that inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase in cells. Leevarin 15mg Tablet is a folate derivative that does not require reduction by the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase before being used in DNA synthesis. Leucovorin, in contrast, can increase the therapeutic effect and toxicity of 5 fluoropyrimidines, such as 5-fluorouracil, by increasing the drug's binding. It protects healthy cells from the effects of methotrexate or similar medications.
