Product Introduction

Luprodex MD Injection contains the active ingredient leuprolide acetate, a gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. It is indicated for treatment of prostate cancer in men, hormone-responsive breast cancer, endometriosis (tissue that normally lines the interior of the uterus growing outside of it), and uterine fibroids (noncancerous growths of the uterus) in women. The medicine is also used in treating central precocious puberty, a condition in which hormonal changes cause a child's body to develop into an adult form at an early age.

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to leuprolide acetate or any other ingredients, including goserelin and triptorelin, or to gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) products. During initial treatment, existing symptoms may temporarily worsen due to an initial increase in sex steroids; this will subside with continued use. Consult your physician regarding any concerns.

This medicine is not recommended in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or patients with abnormal vaginal bleeding. Do not use if you have a history of seizure or mood disorders. Men with urinary blockage or history of testicular removal should inform their physician before treatment. Regular bone density monitoring is advised.

Women of childbearing age should use non-hormonal contraceptive methods during treatment. Inform your doctor of spinal cord pressure, urinary disorders, or haematuria (blood in the urine). Before beginning therapy, disclose all underlying medical conditions, including diabetes, seizures, cardiac disorders such as chest pain or irregular heartbeats, depression, or increased osteoporosis risk. Provide your healthcare professional with a complete list of all medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, herbal preparations, and vitamin supplements, before starting treatment.

Uses

Luprodex MD Injection is used in the treatment of the following: Prostate cancer Hormone-responsive breast cancer in perimenopausal (around menopause) women Endometriosis (a painful illness in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of your uterus) Central precocious puberty in children under 10 years (a child’s body begins to change into an adult too soon caused by a release of certain hormones)

How it works

Luprodex MD Injection causes the pituitary gland's GnRH receptors to become desensitized, which lowers the amount of LH and FSH secreted. In the end, this leads to a decrease in the synthesis of sex hormones, specifically estrogen in females and testosterone in males. This helps to slow the growth of cancer cells, reduce the size of uterine fibroids, and alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis and early onset of puberty.

How to Use

Luprodex MD Injection is usually administered in the arm, thigh or abdomen. If this injection is recommended for you, it will be given by a healthcare professional. Do not self-administer. Your physician will choose the dosage and administration frequency based on the medical condition because it differs for each person.
