Product Introduction
Menopur Injection contains menotrophin, an ovulation stimulator belonging to the gonadotropin class of medications. It is a highly purified mixture of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), natural hormones produced in both males and females that enable reproductive organs to function normally.
Menopur Injection is used to treat infertility in women who are not ovulating, including those with polycystic ovarian disease who have not responded to clomiphene citrate treatment. It is also used to stimulate multiple follicles and promote fertility in women undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or other assisted conception procedures. In men, it is indicated for the treatment of infertility due to low sperm count.
Do not use Menopur Injection if you are allergic to menotrophin or any other ingredient of this medicine. Do not use this medicine if you have a tumour in the pituitary gland (located at the base of the brain and producing certain hormones including growth hormone), hypothalamus (an area beneath the thalamus that regulates body conditions including temperature and blood pressure), uterus, ovaries, breast, testicles, or prostate gland.
Before starting treatment, screening will be performed for underactive thyroid, hormone levels, and tumours of the pituitary and hypothalamus. Do not use this medicine if you have ovarian cysts unrelated to PCOD, vaginal bleeding, early menopause, physical abnormalities of the reproductive organs, previous removal of the womb, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Inform your physician immediately if you experience abdominal pain and swelling, weight gain, diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, or decreased urination. Inform your physician if you have or previously had liver problems or a history of blood clotting disease before beginning treatment.
Uses
Infertility in men and women
How it works
In the absence of sufficient endogenous luteinizing hormone (LH), it binds to the follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSH), resulting in ovulation. It also attaches to the LH receptor, causing appropriate hormone release and treats infertility in women and men.
How to Use
It will be given to you by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic setting. It is given as an intramuscular injection (into your muscles) or under the skin. Do not self-administer the injection. Your doctor will decide the dose, route of administration and duration of the treatment based on your disease severity, body weight, and other factors.
Side Effects
Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them. Common Abdominal pain or swelling Headache Nausea Pelvic pain Overstimulation of ovaries Pain or inflammation at the injection site Mood swings Serious Severe allergic reactions (hypersensitivity reactions)
Expert Tips
If you have missed any dosing appointments, inform your doctor and schedule immediately. This medicine can increase your risk of ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside of the womb) if you have a history of fallopian tube disease, miscarriage, multiple pregnancies (twins and triplets), and birth defects in the baby. Your doctor will regularly perform ultrasound scans and blood tests to monitor your response to the treatment.
