Product Introduction

Merolon 500mg injection is an antibiotic of the carbapenem class containing meropenem as the active ingredient. It is used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including those affecting the skin, lungs, urinary tract, and gynaecological system. It is also used for prevention of surgical site infections.

Merolon 500mg injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins or cephalosporins. Patients who have experienced severe diarrhoea following other antibiotic use should inform their physician before treatment.

Merolon 500mg injection may reduce serum concentrations of valproic acid, a medication used to treat seizures and certain mental health conditions, potentially decreasing its effectiveness. Patients taking valproic acid may require dose adjustment or alternative treatment options, which should be determined by their healthcare provider.

Before commencing treatment with Merolon 500mg injection, patients should inform their physician of pre-existing medical conditions including epilepsy, kidney or liver problems, or adherence to a salt-restricted diet. During treatment, doctors may recommend blood tests to monitor blood cell count and kidney function. Patients who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or taking herbal supplements or other medications should inform their doctor of all current and recent medication use.

Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your improvement and discuss any doubts or queries you may have regarding your treatment with Merolon 500mg injection. While this drug is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some individuals. If you get serious side effects, like severe diarrhea, rash, or difficulty breathing, notify your doctor immediately. It is highly advised not to skip the dose schedules as it may decrease the drug's effectiveness and increase the chance of bacteria developing resistance. It is generally suggested to complete the full treatment schedule as your doctor prescribes.
