Product Introduction
Methnilon 1gm injection is an anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid containing methylprednisolone. It is indicated for inflammatory or allergic conditions affecting the brain (secondary to tumour or meningitis), lungs (secondary to asthma, hypersensitivity, tuberculosis, or aspiration of vomit or gastric contents), gastrointestinal tract, and bowel (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). It is used in the treatment of rheumatic, dermatological, ocular, and endocrine disorders. It is also used for palliative management of certain cancers (leukaemia and lymphoma) and reduction of post-operative pain. In higher doses, it is used to treat acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis. This injection should not be used if you have a fungal infection, cerebral oedema due to malaria, traumatic brain injury, or if you have recently received or are about to receive any vaccination. Common side effects include headache, visual disturbances, impaired wound healing, and bone weakness. Serious side effects include venous thromboembolism in the leg veins and lungs, and peptic ulcer haemorrhage. Inform your healthcare provider if these side effects concern you or persist beyond the expected duration. This medicine can increase the risk of certain ocular complications, including posterior subcapsular cataracts and glaucoma, which may result in vision loss if untreated. Additionally, corticosteroids can suppress immune function, increasing susceptibility to secondary fungal and viral ocular infections. It is therefore important to use corticosteroids at the minimum effective dose for the shortest duration to minimise these risks. If you experience any changes in vision or eye discomfort whilst taking Methnilon 1gm injection or other corticosteroids, inform your doctor immediately. Your healthcare provider will monitor your blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and renal function closely during corticosteroid therapy to prevent adverse effects. Corticosteroids increase urinary calcium excretion, which may lead to osteoporosis and elevated fracture risk with prolonged use. Your doctor may prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplementation to support bone health during corticosteroid therapy. Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking, including herbal medicines and supplements, prior to receiving this injection.
Uses
Treatment of allergic conditions Rheumatic, blood, skin, eye, and endocrine disorders Leukemia and lymphomas (palliative management) Pain related to surgery (organ transplants) Multiple sclerosis Ulcerative colitis
How it works
It works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibits the production of substances (such as prostaglandins) that lead to inflammation and allergies.

Expert Tips
Methnilon 1gm injection can cause harm to a developing fetus or nursing baby, so it is important to notify your physician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby. Grapefruit juice and grapefruit should be avoided by individuals taking this drug. This medicine can cause several side effects related to electrolyte and fluid balance. When given in large doses, these medications can increase blood pressure, cause salt and water retention, and increase the excretion of potassium. These effects are less likely to occur with prolonged use or high doses. To prevent these side effects, dietary salt restriction and potassium supplementation may be necessary.
