Product Introduction

Mexiletine 50mg Capsule is an antiarrhythmic medication used to treat irregular heart rhythms, known as arrhythmias. It is also indicated for treatment of myotonia symptoms in adults with non-dystrophic myotonic disorders, which are conditions resulting from genetic defects affecting muscle function. These disorders are characterised primarily by muscle-related symptoms rather than by specific forms of muscular dystrophy. Myotonia refers to a condition in which muscles experience difficulty relaxing after contraction, leading to muscle stiffness or delayed relaxation.

This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of myocardial infarction. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor of any existing heart, liver, or kidney problems, abnormal potassium or magnesium blood levels, or epilepsy. Mexiletine 50mg Capsule can affect the nervous system and requires cautious use in patients with seizure disorders. Do not take this medicine if you have an allergy to local anaesthetics, a class of medications used to numb specific body areas.

Use in patients under 18 years of age is not recommended. While taking this medication, reducing caffeine intake by approximately half is advised, as Mexiletine 50mg Capsule can increase blood caffeine levels. Elevated caffeine can cause side effects including jitteriness, increased heart rate, and other adverse effects. Reducing caffeine intake helps prevent these interactions.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or plan to become pregnant. This drug passes into breast milk, therefore breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
