Product Introduction
Myfortic 180mg tablet is an immunosuppressant containing mycophenolate sodium as the active ingredient. It is classified as an inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) inhibitor and is used to prevent organ rejection in patients who have received an organ transplant, including kidney, heart, or liver transplantation. The medication is prescribed as part of combination therapy with other immunosuppressive agents.
This tablet is contraindicated in pregnancy due to the risk of birth defects and miscarriage. It should not be used in pregnant women unless no suitable alternatives exist and potential benefits justify the risks. Female patients of reproductive potential are advised to use effective contraception during treatment to prevent pregnancy.
Live vaccines must not be administered while taking Myfortic 180mg tablet, as vaccine effectiveness is reduced and the risk of infection increases. Patients should not donate blood during treatment and for at least six weeks after stopping the medication to ensure adequate clearance from the body.
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to mycophenolate sodium or any other ingredients in the formulation. Inform your doctor of any existing liver or heart disease before starting treatment. As this drug reduces immune defences, it increases the risk of skin cancer. Patients must limit exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) light and take appropriate precautions.
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop bruising under the skin, fever, unexplained tiredness, dizziness, yellowing of the skin or eyes, vision impairment, reduced urine output, or seizures after taking this medicine.
Myfortic 180mg tablet is an immunosuppressive medication that may affect the developing immune system of an infant and should be avoided in breastfeeding patients.
Uses
Prevent organ transplant rejections.
How it works
Myfortic 180mg tablet works by inhibiting the enzyme inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) and reducing the production of guanosine nucleotides. MMF specifically affects the proliferation of activated T and B lymphocytes. These lymphocytes are key players in the immune response that can lead to the rejection of a transplanted organ.
How to Use
It is an orally available prescription drug. Your physician will decide the dose and duration of the treatment based on your disease condition, severity, and other factors. Always take Myfortic 180mg tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Do not open, crush, break, or chew the medicine. Take the medicine at the same time every day as advised by your doctor.
Side Effects
Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them. Serious Infections, fever, or sore throat Unusual bleeding or bruising Low blood cell count Severe allergic reactions Common Higher risk of developing lymphoma and other cancers Nausea, abdominal pain Diarrhea Constipation Loss of appetite Shortness of breath Weight loss Increased heartbeat Headache Blood pressure problem Anaemia
Expert Tips
It is necessary to take the prescribed dose exactly as instructed by your doctor. Inform your doctor about all the medications (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) you are taking, as they can interact with this drug. If you plan to conceive or suspect you might be pregnant while taking Myfortic 180mg tablet, it is important to consult your doctor immediately. They may suggest switching to alternative medications that are safer during pregnancy or adjusting your treatment plan.
