Product Introduction

Myostigmin 0.5 mg contains neostigmine methyl sulphate as its active component. It is a medication primarily indicated for myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disorder characterised by muscle weakness and fatigue. It is used to treat postoperative paralytic ileus, a condition in which normal intestinal contractions are reduced or absent following surgery, and helps enhance gastrointestinal motility. This medication can reverse the effects of certain muscle relaxants administered during surgical procedures. In some cases, it may be used for management of orthostatic hypotension, a condition where blood pressure drops significantly upon standing. It may be used to manage certain types of dysautonomia and autonomic nervous system disorders that can lead to various symptoms including dizziness, heart rate irregularities, and difficulty regulating body temperature. It should not be used in patients with known allergy or hypersensitivity to neostigmine methyl sulphate or any ingredients in the medication. It can affect heart rate and cardiac conduction, so it should be avoided in patients with bradycardia or heart block. It may worsen symptoms in patients with uncontrolled hyperthyroidism and is not indicated as a treatment for hyperthyroidism. It can exacerbate respiratory symptoms and is not used for acute asthma attacks. It can be used in children with myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular conditions, though dosage and administration may differ from adult regimens. Myostigmin 0.5 mg can be used in elderly patients; however, dosage adjustments may be necessary due to potential age-related changes in metabolism and other health considerations.
