Product Introduction
Mypred 500mg injection is an anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid containing methylprednisolone. It is indicated for inflammatory or allergic conditions affecting the brain (secondary to tumours or meningitis), lungs (secondary to asthma, hypersensitivity, tuberculosis, or aspiration of vomit or gastric contents), gastrointestinal tract, and bowel (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). It is also used in rheumatic, dermatological, ocular, and endocrine disorders. Additional indications include palliative management of malignancies (leukaemia and lymphoma) and reduction of post-operative pain. Higher doses are employed in the management of acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis. This injection is contraindicated in fungal infections, cerebral oedema secondary to malaria, traumatic brain injury, or in patients who have recently received vaccination or are scheduled for vaccination. Common adverse effects include headache, visual disturbances, impaired wound healing, and bone weakness. Serious adverse effects include venous thromboembolism (leg veins and lungs) and haemorrhagic ulceration. Inform your healthcare provider if these adverse effects are of concern or persist beyond expected duration. This drug increases the risk of certain ocular conditions, including posterior subcapsular cataracts and glaucoma, which may result in vision loss if untreated. Corticosteroids can also suppress immune function, increasing susceptibility to secondary ocular infections caused by fungi or viruses. The lowest effective dose for the shortest duration should be used to minimise these risks. Report any changes in vision or ocular discomfort to your doctor without delay. Your healthcare provider will monitor blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and renal function during corticosteroid therapy to mitigate adverse effects. Corticosteroids increase urinary calcium excretion, potentially leading to osteoporosis and elevated fracture risk with prolonged use. Your doctor may prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplementation to support bone health during treatment. Inform your physician of all current medications, including herbal preparations and supplements, prior to receiving this injection.
Uses
Treatment of allergic conditions Rheumatic, blood, skin, eye, and endocrine disorders Leukemia and lymphomas (palliative management) Pain related to surgery (organ transplants) Multiple sclerosis Ulcerative colitis
How it works
It works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibits the production of substances (such as prostaglandins) that lead to inflammation and allergies.

Expert Tips
Mypred 500mg injection can cause harm to a developing fetus or nursing baby, so it is important to notify your physician if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby. Grapefruit juice and grapefruit should be avoided by individuals taking this drug. This medicine can cause several side effects related to electrolyte and fluid balance. When given in large doses, these medications can increase blood pressure, cause salt and water retention, and increase the excretion of potassium. These effects are less likely to occur with prolonged use or high doses. To prevent these side effects, dietary salt restriction and potassium supplementation may be necessary.
