Product Introduction
Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet contains nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker antihypertensive agent. It is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and certain types of angina (chest pain) caused by coronary artery disease. In hypertension, this medicine relaxes blood vessels to allow smoother blood flow. In angina, it improves blood supply to the heart, thereby preventing chest pain.
Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to nifedipine or its components. It should not be used in patients with acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) or during the initial recovery phase following heart attack, as it may worsen cardiovascular function in these patients.
Caution is required when using this medication in patients with existing heart conditions, including heart failure or certain conduction abnormalities. Close monitoring and dosage adjustments are necessary in such patients.
Sudden drops in blood pressure can occur during treatment with Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet, particularly in patients with very high baseline blood pressure and low blood volume. This sudden decrease in blood pressure upon standing or changing positions is known as orthostatic hypotension. Blood pressure monitoring during treatment with this drug is essential.

How it works
Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet 30's works by blocking the influx of calcium ions into certain body cells, including muscle cells in blood vessels and the heart. This blockage of calcium ions inhibits the contraction of smooth muscle cells in blood vessels, leading to vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and a decrease in blood pressure.
