Product Introduction
Norad injection contains noradrenaline as its active component. Noradrenaline is a neurotransmitter and hormone that regulates blood pressure and the fight or flight response. It is indicated for hypotension, septic shock, cardiac arrest, anaphylactic shock, bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, regional anesthesia, and nasal congestion. Septic shock is a life-threatening condition characterised by severe systemic infection causing a drop in blood pressure, organ dysfunction, and inadequate blood flow to vital organs. Cardiogenic shock is a critical condition in which the heart's ability to pump blood is severely compromised, leading to inadequate blood flow to organs and tissues, often resulting from myocardial infarction or severe heart failure.
Norad injection can cause hypersensitivity reactions, ranging from cutaneous manifestations to severe allergic responses. It should be used with caution and avoided in patients with known hypersensitivity. Patients with pheochromocytoma, a specific adrenal gland tumour, should not use Norad injection as it may exacerbate their condition. When using Norad injection in paediatric patients, consultation with a paediatrician is important to ensure safe and effective use. Similarly, involvement of a geriatrician is advisable for older adults. The prescribing physician will determine the appropriate dose, adjust it gradually, consider concurrent medications, and monitor clinical response closely. This approach is important because medication response can change with advancing age.
Uses
Norad injection is used in the following: Hypotension management Septic shock treatment Cardiac arrest and bradycardia Anaphylactic shock intervention Cardiogenic shock support Regional anesthesia augmentation Nasal decongestion
How it works
Norad injection acts as a neurotransmitter and hormone. It binds to adrenergic receptors on target cells, particularly α1 and α2 adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction, increased heart rate, and enhanced cardiac contractility. This results in elevated blood pressure and improved perfusion in critical situations.
How to Use
Norad injection is primarily administered intravenously (IV). It's typically given as a continuous infusion through a dedicated IV line under the supervision of trained medical personnel. The IV route allows for precise control of the medication's effects and rapid dosage adjustment in critical situations. This medication requires careful monitoring of vital signs and the patient's response to ensure its safety and efficacy.
Side Effects
Norad injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious Hypertensive crisis Arrhythmias Ischemia Extravasation Pulmonary hypertension Common Increased heart rate Increased blood pressure Headache Nervousness and anxiety Nausea and vomiting Pale or cool skin Dizziness Shortness of breath
Expert Tips
There are important steps to follow when using Norad injection for safety. Patients require close monitoring by healthcare professionals while taking this medication. In some cases, dose adjustment is required based on the person's age and how they react. Patients should check closely things like heart rate, blood pressure, and how their body responds. Consider potentially serious effects like high blood pressure or heart rhythm problems. Take care when putting the IV line in and avoid leaks. Patients should be aware of any side effects and contact their doctor if they face any difficulty during treatment.
