Product Introduction
Obitocip 5mg Tablet is a gastrointestinal medicine containing Obeticholic acid, a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist. It is mainly used to treat primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic liver disease that damages the small bile ducts, reduces bile flow, and may lead to liver scarring (fibrosis).
Do not take Obitocip 5mg Tablet if you are allergic to Obeticholic acid or any of its ingredients. This medicine may increase the blood levels of medications such as theophylline and tizanidine, so your doctor may monitor these medicines and adjust their doses if needed.
Cholesterol-lowering medicines like cholestyramine, colestipol, and colesevelam can reduce the effectiveness of this tablet. To avoid this interaction, take Obitocip 5mg Tablet at least 4 to 6 hours before or after these medications.
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have blocked bile ducts or severe liver disease. Regular liver function tests may be required during treatment. Itching (pruritus) is a common side effect and can sometimes become severe. Your doctor may adjust your dose or prescribe additional medication to relieve it.
The use of Obitocip 5mg Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy due to limited safety data. Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Uses
Treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC)
How it works
Obitocip 5mg Tablet activates the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) in the liver. This activation has various beneficial effects, including reducing liver inflammation, promoting bile flow, and slowing down or reversing liver fibrosis. These actions help to manage the symptoms and progression of PBC.
How to Use
Take the Obitocip 5mg Tablet as advised by your physician. Do not crush, chew, or open the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition. Only stop taking the tablet if your doctor advises you to stop.
