Product Introduction
Ocrevus 300mg injection is a monoclonal antibody indicated for treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients with relapsing forms of MS and primary progressive MS. The active ingredient, ocrelizumab, targets and depletes specific B cells implicated in the immune-mediated attack on the central nervous system. This mechanism reduces disease activity and slows MS progression.
Ocrevus is administered as an infusion every six months following the initial loading dose, providing long-term disease management. The medication is generally safe under medical supervision, though it carries specific risks. Patients may experience infusion-related reactions ranging from mild to severe. Ocrevus is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ocrelizumab or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with active infections or history of certain viral infections.
Before initiating treatment, discuss potential risks, benefits, and cost considerations with your healthcare provider to determine suitability for your condition.
Uses
Ocrevus uses are as follows: Relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (RMS) Early primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS)
How it works
Ocrevus 300mg injection is a powerful treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS), specifically for patients with relapsing forms and primary progressive MS. Its active ingredient, ocrelizumab, targets and depletes CD20-positive B cells, which are involved in the autoimmune attack on the nervous system in MS. By reducing the number of these B cells, Ocrevus helps to lower inflammation, prevent relapses, and slow the progression of disability. The therapeutic effects of Ocrevus include improved long-term outcomes, with reduced disease activity and a slower progression of neurological damage, particularly in patients with primary progressive MS, where treatment options were historically limited. Ocrevus 300mg infusion offers significant benefits in managing MS, improving patient quality of life, and providing a more manageable course of the disease.
How to Use
A doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinical setting will give it to you. It is given intravenously (into the vein). Do not self-administer the injection. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of the treatment based on your disease severity, body weight, and other factors.
Side Effects
Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all drugs cause side effects, not everyone gets them. Serious Infusion-related reactions Skin infection (cellulitis) Herpes infection (cold sore or shingles) Common Sore throat and runny nose Flu Sinus infection Bronchitis (bronchial tube inflammation) Stomach and bowel infection (gastroenteritis) Respiratory tract infection Viral infection Conjunctivitis (discharge from the eye with itching, redness and swelling) Cough Formation of thick mucus in the nose, throat, or chest Low white blood cells
Expert Tips
It is recommended to drink hot water and gargle with salt water to get relief from the sore throat. Use the nasal spray and facial stream for running nose and flu. Your doctor may recommend you monitor the white cell blood cell count. It is advised to put a warm compression over the nose and forehead to relieve sinus pressure due to the sinus infection.
