Pentasa 500mg tablet is an anti-inflammatory medicine containing the active ingredient Mesalazine. It belongs to the aminosalicylate family of drugs. It is indicated for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's ileocolitis. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's ileocolitis are inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Ulcerative colitis primarily inflames the colon and rectum, causing diarrhoea and rectal bleeding. Crohn's ileocolitis affects the small intestine and colon, involving deeper layers of the intestinal wall and resulting in abdominal pain, weight loss, and complications. Do not take Pentasa 500mg tablet if you are allergic to Mesalazine, aspirin, salicylate, or any of its ingredients. Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney disease or blood abnormalities, or if you are taking other medicines such as sulphasalazine. This medicine is not suitable for use in children under 2 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have a current or previous history of severe skin rash or skin peeling, blistering, and mouth ulcers. Before starting Pentasa 500mg tablet treatment, your kidney and blood function will be assessed through testing. Your doctor will perform periodic monitoring of your liver, kidney, and blood health using blood and urine samples throughout your treatment.
