Product Introduction

Plegridy 125mcg injection contains pegylated interferon beta-1a as its active component. It is indicated for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system characterised by inflammation, demyelination, and a range of neurological symptoms. A primary benefit of this medication is its capacity to reduce relapse frequency in patients with relapsing forms of MS, contributing to a more stable disease course. By modulating the immune response and reducing inflammation, this medication may slow disability progression in patients with MS, helping individuals maintain functional capacity over an extended period.

Plegridy 125mcg injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to pegylated interferon beta-1a or any component of the formulation. Use should be approached with caution in patients with a history of severe depression, significant mood disorders, or suicidal ideation, as the medication carries the potential for neuropsychiatric side effects. The drug affects liver function, and patients with severe liver disease or hepatic dysfunction should not receive this medication. Although the medication primarily undergoes hepatic metabolism, it is also partially excreted renally. Patients with severe renal impairment may require dose adjustments or alternative therapeutic options. Safety and efficacy of Plegridy 125mcg injection have not been established in paediatric patients, and use in children is not generally recommended.

How it works

Plegridy 125mcg injection works by modulating the immune system's response, reducing inflammation, and shifting it towards an anti-inflammatory state. This mechanism helps decrease immune cell activation, lowers pro-inflammatory molecule production, and inhibits immune cell migration into the central nervous system. As a result, it reduces the frequency of relapses and delays disability progression in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS).
