Product Introduction
Posoxil Oral Suspension is an azole antifungal containing posaconazole. It is indicated for treatment and prevention of certain fungal infections. The medication is commonly prescribed to prevent and treat invasive fungal infections in patients with weakened immune systems, including those undergoing cancer chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, or those with HIV/AIDS. It is also used to treat certain fungal infections in patients who cannot tolerate or have not responded to other antifungal treatments.
Posoxil Oral Suspension is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to other azole antifungals such as ketoconazole, fluconazole, itraconazole, or voriconazole.
Before initiating Posoxil Oral Suspension, inform your physician if you have certain cardiac conditions including abnormal heart rhythm (long QTc interval), myocardial weakness, heart failure, or any heart rhythm disturbances. Severe kidney impairment requires physician notification. If diarrhoea or vomiting occurs during treatment, inform your physician immediately, as these conditions may affect drug effectiveness. Posoxil Oral Suspension may alter blood levels of potassium, magnesium, or calcium. Patients with electrolyte abnormalities require close monitoring during treatment. If you are taking vinca alkaloid medications such as vincristine or vinblastine used for cancer treatment, inform your physician before initiating therapy. Use in pregnancy is recommended only on physician advice. Posaconazole passes into breast milk; do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
Uses
Treatment of fungal infections
How it works
Posoxil Oral Suspension works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption weakens the membrane, leading to cell death, and effectively treats fungal infections.
How to Use
It is necessary to take the suspension as directed by the physician. Shake the Posoxil Oral Suspension well before use. Do not freeze and any suspension left in a bottle more than four weeks after it was first opened should not be used.
