Product Introduction

Progynova 1mg Tablet contains estradiol, an active ingredient belonging to vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) medicines. It is a synthetic form of estrogen with identical properties to naturally occurring estradiol produced by the ovaries. The tablet is indicated to treat menopausal symptoms including vaginal atrophy (dryness or irritation of the vagina) in elderly women who have completed menopause.

Do not use Progynova 1mg Tablet if you are allergic to estradiol or any of its constituents. The tablet is contraindicated in patients with breast cancer or any oestrogen receptor-sensitive cancer. It should not be used if you have a clotting disorder, blood clots in the veins (lungs or legs), or unexplained vaginal bleeding. The tablet is not recommended if you have a history of heart attack, stroke, angina, or abnormal liver function tests. It is not given to patients with porphyria, a rare inherited blood disorder.

Oestrogen intake increases the risk of gallbladder disease. Discontinue estrogen if you experience cholestatic jaundice, severe hypertriglyceridemia, severe hypercalcemia, or vision loss. Close monitoring is advised in women receiving thyroid replacement treatment. Inform your doctor if you have vaginal bleeding, heart, kidney, lung or liver problems, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, or hearing disorder. Discuss with your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Inform your healthcare provider of your complete medical history and all medicines you are taking, including herbal, vitamin, and over-the-counter medicines.

Uses

Relieve menopausal symptoms of 'vaginal atrophy' (in the vagina such as dryness or irritation) Treatment for hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian failure-related hypoestrogenism Preventing osteoporosis after menopause

How it works

Estradiol primarily acts by binding to estrogen receptors (ERs) present on the surface of target cells. Upon binding to its receptor, estradiol induces a conformational change in the receptor, leading to its activation. Estradiol replaces estrogen (female sex hormone) and prevents the symptoms of menopause, like vaginal irritation or dryness.

How to Use

Take Progynova 1mg Tablet tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not adjust the dosage or frequency without consulting your doctor. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this may affect its effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.

Expert Tips

It is recommended to examine your breast (mammogram) to avoid the risk of breast cancer caused by the drug and inform your doctor if you have any changes in skin color. Always make sure that you have washed your hands before and after the use of the gel. Don't apply it on your breast, eye, or other part of the body apart from the application site. Inform your doctor if you have uterus cancer or a history of blood clots. It is advised to regularly monitor liver function tests, thyroid tests, bone mineral density and blood pressure as treatment with Progynova 1mg Tablet can alter these values.
