Product Introduction

Progynova 2mg Tablet contains estradiol, an active ingredient belonging to vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) medicines. It is a hormone classed as an estrogen with properties identical to the naturally occurring estradiol synthesised by women's ovaries. It is indicated for treatment of menopausal symptoms including vaginal atrophy (dryness or irritation of the vagina) in elderly women who have passed the menopausal stage.

Progynova 2mg Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to estradiol or its constituents. Do not use this tablet if you have breast cancer or any oestrogen receptor-sensitive cancer. It is not advised if you have a clotting disorder, blood clot in the veins (lungs or legs), or unexplained vaginal bleeding. Do not use if you have experienced a heart attack, stroke, or angina, or have abnormal liver function tests. It is not given to patients with porphyria, a rare inherited blood disorder.

Estrogen intake elevates the risk of gallbladder disease. Discontinue use if you experience cholestatic jaundice, severe hypertriglyceridemia, severe hypercalcaemia, or vision loss. Women receiving thyroid replacement treatment require monitoring.

Inform your doctor if you have vaginal bleeding, heart, kidney, lung or liver problems, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, or hearing disorder. Consult your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Discuss your complete medical history with your doctor. Inform your healthcare provider of all medicines you are taking, including herbal preparations, vitamins, and over-the-counter medicines.

Uses

Relieve menopausal symptoms of 'vaginal atrophy' (in the vagina such as dryness or irritation) Treatment for hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian failure-related hypoestrogenism Preventing osteoporosis after menopause

How it works

Estradiol primarily acts by binding to estrogen receptors (ERs) present on the surface of target cells. Upon binding to its receptor, estradiol induces a conformational change in the receptor, leading to its activation. Estradiol replaces estrogen (female sex hormone) and prevents the symptoms of menopause, like vaginal irritation or dryness.

How to Use

Take Progynova 2mg Tablet tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not adjust the dosage or frequency without consulting your doctor. Take your Progynova 2mg Tablet tablets at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of hormones in your body. Swallow the Progynova 2mg Tablet tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this may affect its effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.

Side Effects

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all medicines cause side effects, not everyone gets them. Common Headache Stomach pain Vaginal bleeding Discharge or discomfort. Serious: Ovarian cancer Blood clots Heart attack Breast lumps Stroke

Expert Tips

It is recommended to examine your breast (mammogram) to avoid the risk of breast cancer caused by the drug and inform your doctor if you have any changes in skin color. Always make sure that you have washed your hands before and after the use of the gel. Don't apply it on your breast, eye, or other part of the body apart from the application site. Inform your doctor if you have uterus cancer or a history of blood clots. It is advised to regularly monitor liver function tests, thyroid tests, bone mineral density and blood pressure as treatment with Progynova 2mg Tablet can alter these values.
