Conditions: Heart Disorder

Product Introduction

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet contains Ambrisentan as its active component. This medication is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). PAH is characterised by elevated blood pressure in the arteries that transport blood from the heart to the lungs. The medication works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in the lungs, thereby reducing cardiac strain and improving blood flow. It is typically prescribed as long-term therapy for PAH to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression. By acting on the underlying mechanisms of PAH, Ambrisentan can slow disease progression and extend periods of improved health and quality of life for patients with PAH. It may be used as monotherapy (used alone) or in combination with other PAH medications, depending on disease severity and patient response to treatment. Ambrisentan is generally well-tolerated by most patients. While side effects may occur, they are typically manageable, and healthcare providers can monitor and adjust treatment as needed.

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet should be avoided in individuals with known allergy or hypersensitivity to Ambrisentan or its components. Inform your healthcare provider of any pre-existing medical conditions, including gastrointestinal disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, or other health conditions. These may require special precautions or dose adjustments during treatment. The medication can lead to fluid retention and worsening of heart failure symptoms in some individuals. Patients with a history of heart failure require close monitoring during treatment. Decreases in red blood cell counts (anaemia) and decreases in white blood cell counts have been reported with Pulmonext 10mg Tablet. Regular blood tests are required throughout treatment. Grapefruit juice can increase medication levels in the body, potentially raising the risk of side effects. Grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment with this medication.

Uses

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet is used to treat the following: Pulmonary arterial hypertension

How it works

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet is an endothelin receptor antagonist that exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively blocking the effects of endothelin, a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict and tighten. By inhibiting endothelin's action, this medication promotes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) in the pulmonary arteries, reducing the resistance to blood flow and lowering pulmonary arterial pressure. This mechanism of action improves blood flow to the lungs, lessens the strain on the right side of the heart, and ultimately enhances exercise capacity and quality of life in individuals with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

How to Use

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet is usually taken orally once daily, with or without food. It's important to follow the prescribed dosage provided by your healthcare provider and to take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your system. Swallow the tablet whole with water and do not crush or chew it.

Side Effects

Pulmonext 10mg Tablet causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Liver problems Anaemia (low red blood cell count) Fluid retention leads to heart failure exacerbation in certain individuals Potential birth defects if taken during pregnancy Common: Headache Nasal congestion Flushing Peripheral oedema (swelling in arms, legs, hands, or feet)

Expert Tips

Regular liver function tests are important due to the possibility of liver problems. The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy due to potential birth defects. Careful monitoring for fluid retention is crucial, particularly in those with a history of heart failure. Anaemia and decreased white blood cell counts can warrant regular blood tests. Informing healthcare providers of all medications being taken is essential to prevent potential interactions. Lung conditions should be communicated, as the medication's benefits and risks need to be carefully assessed. Lifestyle factors like alcohol consumption and smoking should be discussed, and any vision changes should be promptly reported. Individuals must be aware of the potential for allergic reactions.
