Product Introduction
Pulmonext 5mg Tablet contains Ambrisentan as its active component. This medication is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition characterised by elevated blood pressure in the arteries that transport blood from the heart to the lungs. It functions by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in the lungs, thereby reducing cardiac strain and improving blood flow. Pulmonext 5mg Tablet is typically prescribed as a long-term treatment for PAH to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression. By targeting the underlying mechanisms of PAH, this medication can slow disease progression, potentially resulting in an extended period of improved health and quality of life for patients with PAH. Ambrisentan may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other PAH medications, depending on disease severity and patient response to treatment. It is generally considered well-tolerated by most patients. While side effects can occur, they are typically manageable, and healthcare providers can monitor and adjust treatment accordingly.
Pulmonext 5mg Tablet should be avoided in individuals with known allergy or hypersensitivity to Ambrisentan or its components. Inform your healthcare provider of any pre-existing medical conditions, including gastrointestinal disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, or other health conditions, as these may require special precautions or treatment adjustments. This medication can sometimes lead to fluid retention and worsening heart failure symptoms in certain individuals. Patients with a history of heart failure require close monitoring during treatment. Decreases in red blood cell counts (anaemia) and white blood cell counts have been reported during treatment with Pulmonext 5mg Tablet. Regular blood tests are required throughout the treatment period. Grapefruit juice can increase medication levels in the body, potentially leading to an increased risk of side effects. Consumption of grapefruit juice should be avoided while taking this medication.
Uses
Pulmonext 5Mg Tablet uses to treat the following: Pulmonary arterial hypertension
How it works
Pulmonext 5mg Tablet is an endothelin receptor antagonist that exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively blocking the effects of endothelin, a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict and tighten. By inhibiting endothelin's action, this medication promotes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) in the pulmonary arteries, reducing the resistance to blood flow and lowering pulmonary arterial pressure. This mechanism of action improves blood flow to the lungs, lessens the strain on the right side of the heart, and ultimately enhances exercise capacity and quality of life in individuals with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
How to Use
Pulmonext 5mg Tablet is usually taken orally once daily, with or without food. It's important to follow the prescribed dosage provided by your healthcare provider and to take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your system. Swallow the tablet whole with water and do not crush or chew it.
Side Effects
Pulmonext 5Mg Tablet side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Liver problems Anaemia (low red blood cell count) Fluid retention leads to heart failure exacerbation in certain individuals Potential birth defects if taken during pregnancy Common: Headache Nasal congestion Flushing Peripheral oedema (swelling in arms, legs, hands, or feet)
