Product Introduction
Rinotec Injection 5 ml is an anti-cancer medicine belonging to the group of cytostatics. It contains the active ingredient Irinotecan hydrochloride trihydrate. The medication is indicated for advanced colon cancer and rectal cancer in adults. It may be prescribed as monotherapy or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents. Colorectal cancer occurs more frequently in age groups above 50 and is associated with genetic and environmental factors. Myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression resulting in reduced levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) and diarrhoea are the most commonly reported adverse effects. Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, anaemia, pain, fatigue, fever, infections including sepsis, abnormal bilirubin levels, alopecia, and weight loss. Inform your doctor if these side effects occur or persist. Report any known allergies to Rinotec Injection 5 ml or its ingredients to your physician. Before commencing treatment, inform your doctor of any liver problems or jaundice, kidney and heart problems, asthma, hypertension or hypercholesterolaemia, or severe diarrhoea. If you are a current smoker or have received prior radiation therapy, report this to your healthcare provider. Discuss all other medicines, herbal products, and supplements with your doctor. Effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is necessary to prevent pregnancy. Your doctor will conduct blood tests before and during treatment to monitor the medication's effects on blood counts and blood chemistry.
Uses
Treatment of metastatic cancer of the colon and rectum (large intestine).
How it works
Rinotec Injection 5 ml works by converting its active metabolite with the help of liver enzymes and inhibits the Topoisomerase I enzyme. This causes damage to the DNA synthesis and its replication, thus preventing the cancer cells from growing and spreading.
How to Use
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed. Your healthcare professional administers it into your vein. Do not self-administer. Your physician will recommend a DNA test before taking this medicine. The dose depends on your age, size, and medical condition.
