Product Introduction
Sedogest SR 450 mg tablet contains the active ingredient Ursodeoxycholic acid. It is classified as a Hepatoprotective agent. This medicine is prescribed for liver and biliary conditions in patients with cystic fibrosis and primary biliary cholangitis. Primary biliary cholangitis is a liver disorder in which impaired bile drainage causes damage to liver tissues. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder affecting the liver and bile ducts, characterised by thickened mucus in the body that leads to obstruction and inflammation.
Do not take this tablet if you are allergic to Ursodeoxycholic acid or any other ingredient in this medicine. Before commencing treatment, inform your doctor if you have acute inflammation, non-functional gallbladder, narrowing or blockage of the bile ducts, or a history of gallbladder conditions. If you have a history of liver disease or obstruction in bile passage, your doctor may monitor your liver function every four weeks during the first three months of treatment. Such monitoring also enables early detection of acute liver failure, particularly in patients with advanced primary biliary cholangitis.
Before starting treatment with Sedogest 450 mg, notify your doctor if you have recently undergone surgery in any part of the intestine, have hepatic encephalopathy (a nervous system disorder caused by severe liver dysfunction), liver bleeding disorder, or any liver-related condition. Report to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney condition, as there is limited information on the use of this tablet in patients with kidney disease.
Common side effects of this tablet include pasty stool, diarrhoea, rash, and abdominal pain.
