Product Introduction
Selepeg 200mcg Tablet is a pulmonary vasodilator belonging to the class of prostacyclin receptor agonists. It contains Selexipag as the active ingredient and is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a serious rare medical condition characterised by high blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs. It primarily affects the small blood vessels (arteries) in the lungs, causing their narrowing and increased resistance to blood flow.
This medication is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to Selexipag or any component. It is also contraindicated in patients with certain heart conditions including severe coronary heart disease, unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, decompensated cardiac failure, severe arrhythmia, or certain heart valve defects. The medication should not be taken if you have experienced a stroke within the last three months or any other event causing reduced blood supply to the brain, or if you are taking gemfibrozil (a medication used to lower lipid levels).
If you have thyroid gland disorders, it is necessary to inform your physician. Thyroid conditions can affect the treatment plan, and your doctor will consider the potential effects of this medication on your condition. Selepeg 200mcg Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy as it can harm a developing fetus. Breastfeeding is not recommended in patients taking this medication because it is unknown whether the medicine passes into breast milk and could harm an infant.
This drug is metabolised and excreted by the kidneys. If you have severe renal impairment or are undergoing dialysis, your doctor needs to determine the appropriate dosage or consider prescribing an alternative medicine.
Uses
Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)
How it works
Selepeg 200mcg Tablet works by activating the prostacyclin receptors in the blood vessels of the lungs. This activation leads to the relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, reducing the elevated blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. By dilating the blood vessels, this drug improves blood flow and reduces the workload on the heart.
How to Use
Take the Selepeg 200mcg Tablet as advised by your physician. Do not crush, chew, or open the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition. Only stop taking the tablet if your doctor advises you to stop.
