Conditions: Kidney Disease

Product Introduction

Sevalac 400mg tablet contains sevelamer, a phosphate binder. It is indicated for the management of hyperphosphatemia (elevated blood phosphate levels) in adult patients on dialysis (haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) and in patients with chronic kidney disease presenting with raised serum phosphorus levels. It should be used alongside other treatments, including calcium supplements and vitamin D, to prevent bone disease. High blood phosphorus levels can lead to calcification, in which hard deposits accumulate and stiffen blood vessels, impairing blood flow.

Do not take Sevalac 400mg tablet if you are allergic to sevelamer or any ingredient in the medication. Avoid this medicine if you have low phosphate levels or bowel obstruction.

Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you have difficulty swallowing or if your stomach and bowel have problems with food movement. Also inform your doctor if you currently have bowel inflammation or have undergone major stomach or bowel surgery.

Sevalac 400mg tablet is not recommended for children under six years of age, as safety and efficacy data in this age group are limited.

If your doctor has advised you of sugar intolerance, consult your doctor before taking this medication, as it contains lactose.
