Product Introduction
Sevcar 400mg tablet contains the active ingredient Sevelamer, a phosphate binder used to manage hyperphosphatemia (elevated blood phosphate levels) in adult patients on dialysis (haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) and patients with chronic kidney disease presenting with raised serum phosphorus. It should be used alongside other treatments, including calcium supplements and vitamin D, to help prevent bone disease. Elevated blood phosphorus can lead to calcification, wherein calcium deposits accumulate and stiffen blood vessels, impairing blood circulation.
Do not take Sevcar 400mg tablet if you are allergic to Sevelamer or any component of the formulation. Avoid this medicine if you have low phosphate levels or bowel obstruction. Prior to commencing treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Notify your doctor if you have difficulty swallowing or if your gastrointestinal tract has impaired motility. Also disclose any history of bowel inflammation or major abdominal or bowel surgery. Sevcar 400mg tablet is not recommended in children below six years of age owing to insufficient safety and efficacy data in this age group. If you have been advised about sugar intolerance, consult your doctor before taking this medication, as the formulation contains lactose.
